Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the intense pressure and heightened motivation surrounding the club’s prolonged trophy drought, emphasizing that the desire to succeed remains unwavering under his leadership.
Speaking to the media on Friday, as relayed by ESPN, Arteta reflected on the challenges of going years without silverware, stating that the lack of major honours has added both necessity and drive to Arsenal’s campaign.
“Obviously, the willingness to win has always been there, and that doesn’t change if I win one, two, three or five [trophies],” he said. “But, yes, it has been difficult to accept because I want to win every competition that I’m involved in.”
The Spaniard highlighted how the extended wait has fueled determination within the squad. “When you have been in this position and gone years without winning a trophy, obviously, it adds more necessity, but also more drive because you really want it.
Arteta added: “You also have to understand in sport that sometimes other players and other teams are better than you, and what you have to do is to be able to look in the mirror, give absolutely everything, and be better than them and that’s what we are chasing.”
