Kai Havertz has described himself as a flexible attacking option for both Arsenal and Germany, saying he is comfortable across all offensive positions and has no strong preference for a single role.
The forward also addressed his leadership style and his role as vice-captain, paying tribute to captain Joshua Kimmich and fellow vice-captain Antonio Rüdiger for their support during his year-long injury absence.
“I feel very comfortable in all offensive roles. I’m a very flexible player. I’ve already played in different positions both for the national team and at Arsenal. Off the pitch, everyone knows I’m not the loud type who gives big speeches in the dressing room.
“But there are also players who lead by performance, and I count myself among them — especially because of my experience at national and international level. I’m challenging myself to be very successful at this World Cup.”
On his role as vice-captain, Havertz added: “I’ve had consistently good contact with Antonio Rüdiger (also vice-captain) and captain Joshua Kimmich, and I’m very grateful for that.
“The contact has actually become even stronger. I’ve known both of them for a very long time, and they both know I had a difficult time. In phases when things aren’t going well, you notice who really stands behind you.”
