Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, though the Gunners are yet to make any serious moves to get a deal done.
According to Romano, Arsenal never had any intention of pursuing Tonali in January — the window didn’t present a realistic opportunity — but they have continued to monitor his situation with an eye on the summer.
The north London side will face stiff competition if they do decide to firm up their interest, though.
Manchester United have already gone a step further, with Romano confirming that the Red Devils have made their intentions known directly to Tonali’s camp — giving them an early advantage.
For now, nothing is imminent on Arsenal’s end, but with the summer window approaching, expect this one to gather pace in the coming weeks.
