Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has played down concerns over the club’s Carabao Cup final defeat, insisting the result has no bearing on the title race.
Speaking to AceOdds, Winterburn said: “I am not worried going forward. We are leading the Premier League and still have the FA Cup and the Champions League. I think Man City wanted to make a statement, but it doesn’t affect anything in the league. Arsenal still have the point advantage and we just need to take it game by game.”
The former defender’s comments come in the wake of Manchester City’s cup final victory, which Winterburn acknowledged was a statement win for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, the numbers back up his relaxed outlook.
Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League with 70 points from 31 games — a record of 21 wins, 7 draws, and just 3 defeats. Manchester City find themselves nine points adrift in second place on 61 points, having won 18, drawn 7, and lost 5 of their league games this season.
Arsenal remain active in both the FA Cup and the Champions League, keeping their hopes of an historic treble alive. As Winterburn puts it, the league remains the priority — and on current form, it is very much Arsenal’s to lose.
